Assam Government and Tata Group Sign Landmark 60-Year Lease for Semiconductor Unit in Morigaon

In a significant move aimed at bolstering India’s semiconductor manufacturing capabilities, the Assam government and Tata Group have signed a landmark 60-year lease agreement for 170 acres of land in Morigaon. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in India’s journey towards becoming a global hub for semiconductor production.

Under this agreement, Tata Group is set to invest a staggering Rs. 27,000 crore to establish a state-of-the-art semiconductor unit. The plant, poised to be one of the largest in the region, is expected to revolutionize the local economy by creating thousands of jobs and attracting ancillary industries.

The project aligns with the Indian government’s vision to reduce dependency on semiconductor imports and enhance domestic production. The strategic location in Morigaon is expected to provide logistical advantages and foster a thriving industrial ecosystem in Assam.

Construction of the facility is already underway, with the first semiconductor chip anticipated to roll out by 2025. This ambitious timeline underscores Tata Group’s commitment to expediting the project and delivering cutting-edge technology solutions.

This collaboration not only signifies a major leap for Assam’s industrial landscape but also places India firmly on the global semiconductor map. As the world grapples with semiconductor shortages, this initiative is a timely and strategic move that promises to yield substantial economic and technological dividends for the country.
