Green hydrogen cost in India to fall to $2 per kg by 2032: Mission director

Image
India’s ambitious green hydrogen push is expected to drive costs down to nearly $2 per kilogram by 2032 , according to the country’s Green Hydrogen Mission director. The government’s National Green Hydrogen Mission , launched with an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, aims to make India a global hub for production, usage, and export of green hydrogen. Falling renewable power prices, advances in electrolyser technology, and large-scale deployment are seen as the main drivers behind the sharp cost reduction. Currently, green hydrogen costs in India range between $4–6 per kg , making it less competitive than fossil fuel-based alternatives. Achieving the $2 mark will enable widespread adoption in sectors like steel, fertilizers, refining, and shipping, while also opening opportunities for exports. India has set a target to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 , a move expected to significantly cut carbon emissions and reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels.

UP’s First Green Hydrogen Plant Inaugurated in Gorakhpur

Image
Uttar Pradesh has taken a major step towards clean energy with the inauguration of its first Green Hydrogen Plant in Gorakhpur , making it only the second such facility in India . The plant aims to produce green hydrogen using renewable energy, significantly reducing carbon emissions and supporting India’s push for sustainable fuel alternatives.  Officials highlighted that the project will not only boost local industrial growth but also contribute to the national goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. This marks a milestone in India’s transition towards a greener energy ecosystem.

India to Roll Out 1,000+ Hydrogen Buses and Trucks by 2030

Image
India has announced a major green mobility initiative to deploy over 1,000 hydrogen-powered buses and trucks by 2030. The move aims to cut carbon emissions, reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and support the country’s net-zero goals. Backed by the National Green Hydrogen Mission, this plan is set to stimulate demand for clean fuel in the transport sector, with pilot projects beginning in key industrial hubs. The government is also incentivizing hydrogen production and infrastructure development to ensure scalability and long-term viability of the program.

India Set to Launch Its First Hydrogen-Powered Train This Month

Image
India is set to make a significant leap in green transportation with the launch of its first hydrogen-powered train this month. The eco-friendly train is expected to run on the 89-km-long Jind-Sonipat section in Haryana, marking a major step towards sustainable rail travel. Hydrogen-powered trains produce zero emissions, as they generate electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, emitting only water as a byproduct. This initiative aligns with India's goal of reducing carbon footprints in the transportation sector and promoting clean energy alternatives. The project is part of Indian Railways' broader efforts to adopt green technologies and modernize its rail network. If successful, more hydrogen-powered trains could be introduced across various routes in the country, significantly reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The launch of this train not only showcases India's commitment to environmental sustainability but also paves the way for a cleaner...

India's Leap Towards Sustainable Energy: Kandla, Paradip, and Tuticorin Port as Green Hydrogen Hubs

Image
In an era where the world is racing against time to combat climate change, India is taking an impressive leap towards sustainable energy. The country is strategically developing its ports in Kandla, Paradip, and Tuticorin as green hydrogen hubs, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to clean and renewable energy sources. With this ambitious initiative, India is not only reducing its carbon footprint but also paving the way for a greener, more prosperous future. The Green Hydrogen Revolution Green hydrogen, often touted as the “fuel of the future,” is produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. It holds immense promise as a clean and versatile energy carrier that can replace fossil fuels in various sectors, including transportation, industry, and power generation. India’s decision to transform its ports into green hydrogen hubs aligns with its renewable energy goals and international climate commitments. Kandl...
