India to Build Two Cross-Border Rail Links to Bhutan with ₹4,033 Crore Outlay

  India has approved two major cross-border rail projects to strengthen connectivity with Bhutan at a cost of ₹4,033 crore. The first link will connect Banarhat in West Bengal to Samtse in Bhutan , while the second will run from Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu in Bhutan .  These strategic railway corridors aim to boost bilateral trade, tourism, and cultural ties, while also enhancing regional connectivity in the Northeast. Once completed, the projects are expected to provide Bhutan with its first-ever railway access, marking a milestone in India-Bhutan relations and supporting the broader vision of regional integration.

Bhutan, Adani Power Ink Pact for 570 MW Hydropower Project

  Bhutan has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Adani Power to develop a 570 MW hydropower plant in the country, marking a significant boost to regional energy cooperation. The project, aimed at enhancing Bhutan’s renewable energy capacity, is expected to be completed within five years.  Leveraging the expertise of Indian companies in large-scale hydro projects, the initiative will not only strengthen Bhutan’s clean energy portfolio but also deepen cross-border collaboration with India in the power sector.

Indian Railways Completes DPR for Railway Line Connecting India and Bhutan

  Indian Railways has successfully completed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 69.04 km railway line connecting Kokrajhar in Assam with Gelephu in Bhutan. This strategic rail link aims to enhance trade, connectivity, and cultural ties between the two neighboring countries. The proposed railway line is expected to boost economic activities in the region, benefiting local businesses and improving tourism prospects. Once completed, it will be Bhutan's first-ever railway connection, strengthening diplomatic and infrastructural cooperation between India and Bhutan.
