  India is set to bolster its naval capabilities with the commissioning of its second Russia-built stealth missile frigate, ‘Tamal’, by the end of June 2025. The frigate is part of the Project 11356 (Grigorovich-class), under a bilateral agreement between India and Russia to enhance maritime strength and defense cooperation. ‘Tamal’ follows the first of four frigates being built under a $2.5 billion deal signed in 2018. While two ships are being constructed in Russia, the other two are being built at Goa Shipyard Limited in India. Equipped with stealth features, advanced radar systems, and BrahMos supersonic missiles, ‘Tamal’ will significantly enhance the Indian Navy’s combat readiness in the Indo-Pacific region.
