Bengaluru's Need for a Second International Airport

 

Bengaluru, known as the Silicon Valley of India, is experiencing rapid growth, leading to increased demands on its infrastructure. Karnataka Minister MB Patil has highlighted the necessity for a second international airport capable of handling at least 100 million passengers annually. This proposal is driven by the need to accommodate the city’s burgeoning population and its status as a major technological and economic hub.

Minister Patil emphasized that the new airport would require 4,500 to 5,000 acres of land. The current Kempegowda International Airport, despite its recent expansions, is nearing its capacity limits. A second airport would not only alleviate congestion but also ensure seamless travel for both domestic and international passengers.

The proposed project is not just about managing passenger traffic; it is also about fostering economic growth. An additional airport would create numerous job opportunities, attract foreign investment, and bolster Bengaluru’s position as a global city.
