UAE Joins BRICS: A New Era of Global Development and Climate Leadership

The United Arab Emirates’ recent accession to the BRICS group highlights its strong commitment to multilateralism and constructive dialogue. As a new member of BRICS—comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—the UAE is poised to play a pivotal role in supporting global development and climate action.

By joining BRICS, the UAE reinforces its long-standing approach of fostering partnerships with countries and international organizations to achieve common goals. This membership aligns seamlessly with the UAE’s focus on economic growth, trade expansion, and global sustainable development. It presents an opportunity for the UAE to contribute to and benefit from enhanced cooperation with BRICS nations.

The UAE’s participation is expected to catalyze innovation and strengthen economic ties among BRICS countries. This partnership will unlock new opportunities in key sectors such as investment, infrastructure, energy, space, and emerging technologies. Through these collaborations, the UAE aims to promote prosperity and wellbeing on a global scale.

One notable instance of the UAE’s proactive role in BRICS is its involvement in the BRICS High-Level Dialogue on Climate Change, held in Moscow. Dr. Amna Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, participated in this dialogue, emphasizing the UAE’s national climate actions, including its policies and legislative frameworks aimed at combating climate change and promoting sustainable development.

This dialogue also highlighted India's focus on clean energy transition as part of its climate and sustainability targets. The UAE’s membership broadens BRICS' outreach, creating a more integrated approach that leverages India’s expertise and the UAE’s leadership in emerging industries.

Overall, the UAE’s accession to BRICS signifies a strategic step towards fostering global cooperation and addressing shared challenges, particularly in the realms of development and climate action.
