Sikkim Government Mandates Garbage Bags for Tourist Vehicles to Ensure Environmental Sustainability

 

In a commendable move to promote environmental sustainability, the Sikkim government has introduced a mandatory policy for all tourist vehicles entering the state. Starting now, every tourist vehicle must carry a designated garbage bag to ensure proper waste management and reduce littering in the pristine region.

Sikkim, renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rich biodiversity, attracts thousands of tourists annually. However, the influx of visitors has also led to environmental challenges, particularly waste disposal. To address this issue, the new regulation aims to instill a sense of responsibility among tourists, encouraging them to keep the environment clean and preserve the natural beauty of the state.

Under this initiative, tourist vehicles will be checked at entry points for compliance. Those without a proper garbage bag will be required to obtain one before being allowed to proceed. The collected waste will be disposed of at designated sites, ensuring minimal impact on the environment.

The Sikkim government hopes this measure will significantly reduce the amount of litter along roadsides, in forests, and around tourist hotspots. By promoting eco-friendly practices, the state aims to set a precedent for other regions facing similar challenges.
