Expansion of India's National Highways Network

India’s national highways network has witnessed a significant expansion over the past decade. As of July 25, 2024, the length of national highways in the country has surged to approximately 146,126 kilometers. This marks a substantial increase from 91,287 kilometers recorded in March 2014.

This expansion reflects India’s commitment to improving its infrastructure and enhancing connectivity across regions. The increase in highway length supports economic growth by facilitating smoother transportation of goods and people. It also contributes to regional development by providing better access to remote areas, thereby boosting local economies.

The upgrade of the national highways network is part of a broader initiative to modernize India’s transportation infrastructure, addressing traffic congestion, and reducing travel time. This expansion is expected to drive progress and enhance the overall efficiency of the country’s logistics and transportation systems.
