G42 Unveils NANDA: A Breakthrough Hindi LLM at UAE-India Business Forum in Mumbai

G42, a leading technology holding group based in the UAE, has announced the upcoming launch of NANDA, a pioneering Hindi Large Language Model (LLM), during the UAE-India Business Forum in Mumbai. The announcement was made in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, during his state visit to India.

NANDA, a 13-billion parameter model trained on 2.13 trillion tokens of language datasets, including Hindi, aims to revolutionize AI for India’s Hindi-speaking population. The model’s name is inspired by one of India’s highest peaks, symbolizing its potential to uplift the Hindi language within the AI landscape.

The model is a result of collaboration between Inception (a G42 company), Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and Cerebras Systems. It was trained using Condor Galaxy, one of the world's most powerful AI supercomputers for language training.

With the launch of NANDA, G42 is aiming to boost India's AI capabilities, providing half a billion Hindi speakers with access to advanced generative AI. According to Manu Jain, CEO of G42 India, the initiative supports India's growing technological leadership, particularly under the influence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India and Startup India initiatives.

Dr. Andrew Jackson, Acting CEO of Inception, emphasized that NANDA reflects G42’s commitment to fostering AI inclusivity and representing Hindi in the global digital space. Following the successful launch of JAIS, an open-source Arabic LLM, NANDA marks another step in G42's mission to democratize AI for underrepresented languages.

NANDA is poised to empower India's scientific, academic, and developer communities by accelerating the growth of a Hindi language AI ecosystem, ensuring widespread access to AI technologies.
