Apple and Google Remove Several VPN Apps from India Stores

In a recent move, Apple and Google have taken down several virtual private network (VPN) apps from their respective platforms, the App Store and Play Store, in India. The removal aligns with the Indian government’s ongoing efforts to regulate digital spaces and ensure compliance with local laws.

The crackdown on VPNs stems from concerns over data privacy, cybersecurity, and the misuse of anonymous browsing tools for illegal activities. VPNs, while offering users anonymity and bypassing geo-restrictions, have come under scrutiny for potentially enabling activities that evade regulatory oversight.

This decision is expected to impact users who rely on VPNs for secure browsing or accessing content restricted in India. However, privacy advocates worry it could restrict digital freedoms and limit the ability to protect online data.

While Apple and Google have not issued detailed statements, the move highlights the growing tension between global tech companies and local regulatory requirements in India.
