The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced an ambitious plan to construct 74 new tunnels across India, spanning a total distance of 273 kilometers. The project, valued at over ₹1 lakh crore, is aimed at improving road connectivity in remote and challenging terrains, particularly in hilly regions. These tunnels will enhance travel efficiency, reduce travel time, and boost economic activities by connecting previously inaccessible areas. The construction will also aid in national security, especially in border regions, by improving access for defense forces. The initiative is a part of the government's broader infrastructure development plan to modernize India's road network.
