The Indian Government Approves Kedarnath Ropeway Project Worth ₹4,081 Crore

The Indian government has given the green light to the ambitious 12.9-km Kedarnath ropeway project, connecting Sonprayag to Kedarnath. This ₹4,081 crore project aims to significantly enhance travel convenience for pilgrims visiting the revered Kedarnath Temple.

Currently, the trek from Sonprayag to Kedarnath takes around 8–9 hours on foot. With the new ropeway, this journey will be reduced to just 36 minutes, making the pilgrimage more accessible, especially for elderly and differently-abled devotees.

This project is expected to boost religious tourism, improve local infrastructure, and provide economic opportunities for the region. Once completed, the Kedarnath ropeway will be one of the longest and highest-altitude ropeways in the country, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas while ensuring a safe and efficient travel experience.
