India's Public Electric Vehicle Charging Network Grows to 26,367 Stations as Govt. Expands EV Infra Push

India's electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem is witnessing rapid growth, with the number of public charging stations reaching 26,367 as of 2024. This expansion is part of the government’s aggressive push to promote clean mobility and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

The Ministry of Heavy Industries, in collaboration with state governments and private players, has been actively setting up EV charging infrastructure across cities and highways. Subsidies, policy incentives, and initiatives like the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles (FAME) scheme have played a crucial role in this expansion.

With major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai leading the way, tier-2 and tier-3 cities are also witnessing a rise in charging stations. The government aims to make EV adoption seamless by ensuring easy access to charging points, ultimately boosting India's transition to a sustainable transportation system.
