Australia win by 21 runs, Seal series with 2-1

The third and final One Day International (ODI) match between India and Australia was a thrilling encounter that took place on the 2nd of December, 2020 at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, Australia. India had already lost the first two matches in the three-match series and was looking to avoid a whitewash.

Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. They got off to a solid start with their opening batsmen, Aaron Finch and David Warner, adding 142 runs for the first wicket. Finch scored a century while Warner scored a half-century. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne also chipped in with valuable contributions as Australia posted a mammoth total of 302 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 50 overs.

Chasing a target of 303 runs, India got off to a good start with their opening batsmen, Shikhar Dhawan, and Shubman Gill, adding 58 runs for the first wicket. However, both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession and India found themselves in trouble. Captain Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with a 93-run partnership. Kohli scored a half-century while Iyer scored a brilliant century. However, once they were dismissed, India lost wickets at regular intervals and fell short of the target by 12 runs, finishing at 289/9 in their 50 overs.

Despite losing the series 2-1, India can take a lot of positives from this match. Shreyas Iyer's century was a brilliant knock and he showed that he has the ability to perform under pressure. India's bowling also showed some improvement in this match as they restricted Australia to 302 runs, which is a good effort considering the kind of start Australia got.

In conclusion, the third and final ODI match between India and Australia was an exciting encounter that showcased some brilliant cricket. While India lost the series, they will be encouraged by the performances of some of their players and will look to bounce back in the upcoming T20I series.
