  India is stepping up plans to build its own graphics processing units (GPUs) as part of a broader push for technological self-reliance. The move gained momentum following discussions between Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior executives from Nvidia, highlighting India’s intent to strengthen its domestic semiconductor and high-performance computing capabilities. Developing indigenous GPUs is seen as critical for supporting artificial intelligence, data centers, defense applications, and advanced research. The initiative aligns with India’s semiconductor mission, which aims to reduce dependence on foreign hardware, build a robust chip design ecosystem, and position the country as a global technology manufacturing hub.

  Delhi-based Gautam Solar has announced a major investment of ₹4,000 crore to establish a state-of-the-art 5 GW solar cell manufacturing facility in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.  The project aims to boost India’s domestic solar manufacturing capacity and reduce dependence on imports, aligning with the government’s renewable energy push. Once operational, the facility is expected to generate significant local employment and contribute to India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power capacity by 2030.

  OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has hailed India as the company’s second-largest market globally after the United States, adding that it could soon claim the top spot. Speaking on India’s growing role in AI adoption, Altman highlighted the country’s vast developer community, rapid digital transformation, and appetite for cutting-edge technology.  He noted that OpenAI’s tools are increasingly being embraced across sectors in India — from education and research to business innovation — making it a critical hub for the company’s future growth.
