CBI summons Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav for questioning in land-for-job scam case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has once again summoned Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav to appear before its officials for questioning in connection with a corruption case. This is the fourth time that the CBI has called him for questioning.

The case pertains to alleged irregularities in the award of a contract for the maintenance of two railway hotels in Ranchi and Puri when Tejashwi's father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was the railway minister between 2004 and 2009. Tejashwi was also a minister in the Bihar government during the period under investigation.

The CBI had earlier conducted searches at Tejashwi's residence in Patna and the premises of his family members in connection with the case. The agency also questioned him and his mother Rabri Devi, who is a former Bihar chief minister, in July 2017.

Tejashwi has denied any wrongdoing and alleged that the case was politically motivated. He has also claimed that the CBI was acting under pressure from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre.

The case has been a source of tension between the ruling Janata Dal (United) and the RJD, which are part of the Grand Alliance government in Bihar. The JD(U) has been demanding Tejashwi's resignation from the post of deputy chief minister, citing the corruption case against him.

Tejashwi, on his part, has refused to step down and has accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of trying to break the Grand Alliance and engineer a split in the RJD.

The CBI's latest summons to Tejashwi is likely to further escalate the political tension in Bihar. It remains to be seen how the RJD and the JD(U) will respond to the development, and whether Tejashwi will comply with the CBI's directive to appear for questioning.
