YSRTP's YS Sharmila detained by Delhi Police at protest against Telangana govt
YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the founder of the newly formed YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), was detained by the Delhi Police on Friday during a protest against the Telangana government.
Sharmila was protesting against the alleged harassment of people from Andhra Pradesh living in Telangana by the state government. She alleged that the Telangana government was deliberately targeting people from Andhra Pradesh and creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among them.
The Delhi Police detained Sharmila along with several of her supporters as they were marching towards the Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi. The police stated that the protest was held without permission and violated COVID-19 protocols.
Sharmila's detention has sparked a political uproar, with the Andhra Pradesh government accusing the Telangana government of suppressing dissent and violating the right to protest. The YSRTP has also alleged that the Telangana government is using strong-arm tactics to silence the opposition and create a climate of fear.
This incident highlights the growing political tensions between the two neighboring states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The two states were carved out of the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh in 2014, and there have been ongoing disputes over issues such as water sharing, division of assets, and the location of the capital city.
The detention of Sharmila is likely to further escalate tensions between the two states and could lead to more protests and political unrest. It remains to be seen how the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments will respond to this incident and whether they will take steps to address the underlying issues that have led to the growing tensions between the two states.
