Mumbai Indians registered first win and Rohit Sharma won the M.O.M award
In the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Mumbai Indians registered their first win against Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai Indians won the toss and were elected to field first. Delhi Capitals managed to score 163 runs in their allotted 20 overs, with the help of half-centuries from their skipper Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer.
In the chase, Mumbai Indians got off to a good start with their openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma putting on a partnership of 72 runs for the first wicket. Kishan was dismissed for 36 runs, but Rohit Sharma carried on and scored a brilliant half-century to guide his team to a comfortable victory. Sharma remained unbeaten on 78 runs off just 50 deliveries, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes.
For his match-winning knock, Rohit Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match (M.O.M) award. This was Sharma's 18th M.O.M award in the IPL, which is the most by any player in the tournament's history. He surpassed the previous record held by Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni, who has won the award 17 times.
This win will boost Mumbai Indians' confidence as they look to defend their IPL title for the sixth time. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals will have to regroup quickly and come back stronger in their next match. With the IPL being one of the most-watched T20 leagues in the world, fans can expect more thrilling encounters and outstanding performances in the coming days.
