Strengthening Ties: US, UAE, and India Eye Enhanced Military Collaboration

The United States recently recognized the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a "Major Defense Partner," a title previously only granted to India. This designation signals a deepening security relationship between the US and UAE, allowing for enhanced military collaboration, advanced technology sharing, and joint training exercises. In a joint statement following a meeting between President Joe Biden and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, both leaders expressed commitment to increased military cooperation, aiming to boost regional stability in the Middle East, East Africa, and the Indian Ocean.

The new status opens the door for unprecedented military-to-military collaboration between the US, UAE, and India. These countries are already members of the I2U2 group, which also includes Israel, working on key projects like connectivity and renewable energy.

The leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), launched at the G20 Summit in 2023. The corridor is expected to enhance economic growth, investment, and global connectivity, though the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict has affected its progress.

The US, UAE, and India’s military collaboration signals a strong commitment to fostering security and stability while also reinforcing ties through economic and strategic initiatives.
