UAE Foreign Aid Hits AED 360 Billion Since 1971: A Legacy of Global Solidarity

 


In 2024, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) marked a significant milestone in its humanitarian efforts, celebrating its 53rd anniversary of Eid Al Etihad. Since its founding in 1971, the UAE has contributed AED 360 billion (US$ 98 billion) in foreign aid, establishing itself as a leader in global philanthropy. This generous aid has profoundly impacted poverty reduction, crisis mitigation, and sustainable development around the world.

The UAE’s foreign aid has been particularly impactful in India, where it has offered support during natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. Notably, in 2020, the UAE extended vital aid during the COVID-19 pandemic, sending multiple flights filled with medical supplies, including oxygen concentrators and ventilators, to help India combat the health crisis. Financial assistance was also provided to ease the strain on India's healthcare system during this challenging period.

Beyond emergency relief, the UAE has also supported long-term development projects in India, focusing on sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. This aid has helped to improve quality of life, promote economic growth, and uplift marginalized communities.

The UAE’s foreign aid is provided through a combination of grants, loans, and support via both governmental and non-governmental organizations. The country’s initiatives cover a wide range of areas, including healthcare, poverty alleviation, natural disaster response, refugee support, and infrastructure development. Through these efforts, the UAE continues to reinforce its commitment to global solidarity and human welfare.
