UAE Foreign Minister's Visit to India Aims to Boost Bilateral Ties

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has arrived in New Delhi to participate in the 4th Strategic Dialogue and the 15th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting. This visit marks a significant step in furthering the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE.

The visit was warmly welcomed by India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, who highlighted the importance of the discussions that are expected to enhance bilateral cooperation across various sectors. In his social media post, Jaiswal expressed that the visit would "further strengthen the multifaceted Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" between the two nations.

In a continuation of their strong diplomatic relationship, the 14th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting, co-chaired by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Sheikh Abdullah in September 2022, had already made significant strides in bilateral cooperation, including the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Cultural Council Forum to deepen ties.

During this latest meeting, both countries committed to achieving a bilateral trade target of USD 100 billion in the next five years. The ministers also discussed enhancing digital cooperation by exploring the possibility of linking payment platforms like India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with those in the UAE.

The UAE Foreign Minister also acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Indian community to the UAE’s progress, while Jaishankar expressed gratitude for the UAE's efforts in supporting the Indian diaspora.

Looking ahead, both nations agreed to hold discussions on consular issues, skills development, and manpower exchange, further reinforcing the strong and evolving partnership between India and the UAE.
