The Indian Government Explores Two More Lithium Blocks in Jammu and Kashmir

 


India is intensifying its efforts to secure critical mineral resources by exploring two additional lithium blocks in Jammu and Kashmir. This strategic move follows the discovery of a significant lithium reserve of 5.9 million metric tons in the region earlier this year.

Lithium, a vital component for batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs) and renewable energy storage, is essential for India’s transition to green energy. The government aims to reduce dependence on imports and bolster domestic production to meet rising demand.

Preliminary surveys are underway to assess the feasibility and quality of the newly identified blocks. If successful, these explorations could further position India as a key player in the global lithium market, supporting its ambitious goals for sustainable development and energy security.
