India on Target to Achieve 20% Ethanol Blending in Petrol by October 2025: PM Modi

India is making rapid progress toward achieving its target of 20% ethanol blending in petrol by October 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced. This initiative is a key part of the country’s efforts to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels, cut carbon emissions, and promote sustainable energy solutions.

Speaking at a recent event, PM Modi highlighted the success of the Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) program, which has already surpassed 12% blending in 2023. The increased use of ethanol, derived mainly from sugarcane and agricultural waste, is expected to benefit farmers, reduce crude oil imports, and enhance energy security.

The government has been incentivizing ethanol production through policy support, financial assistance, and infrastructure development. Major oil marketing companies are setting up ethanol storage and blending facilities to meet the ambitious target.

Achieving 20% ethanol blending by 2025 will not only help India cut down on greenhouse gas emissions but also boost the rural economy by providing farmers with an alternative revenue source. This milestone aligns with India's broader vision of becoming self-reliant in energy and promoting green fuels for a sustainable future.
