Construction of India’s First Semiconductor Manufacturing Plant by Tata Electronics JV in Dholera, Gujarat

India is set to take a significant leap in the semiconductor industry with the construction of its first semiconductor manufacturing plant by Tata Electronics in a joint venture (JV) in Dholera, Gujarat. This ambitious project marks a crucial step toward reducing India's dependence on semiconductor imports and strengthening its position in the global chip supply chain.

The plant, approved under the Indian government's semiconductor incentive program, is expected to boost domestic chip production, catering to industries like electronics, automotive, and telecommunications. Tata Electronics, in collaboration with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), will invest approximately $11 billion in this state-of-the-art facility.

Located in the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR), the plant will benefit from world-class infrastructure, strategic government support, and access to skilled talent. The project is expected to generate thousands of jobs and enhance India’s self-reliance in semiconductor manufacturing.

With this development, India aims to become a global hub for semiconductor production, reducing its reliance on imports and strengthening its digital economy.
