Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Bike Taxis with Conditions: A Boost for Rapido, Ola, and Uber

In a significant move, the Maharashtra cabinet has approved the operation of bike taxis, setting specific conditions to ensure safety and regulation. This decision is expected to provide a major boost to ride-hailing companies like Rapido, Ola, and Uber, which have been eyeing the bike taxi segment in the state.

The new policy mandates that only vehicles with a valid commercial registration will be allowed to operate as bike taxis. Additionally, safety measures such as helmet mandates for both riders and passengers, proper insurance coverage, and GPS tracking will be enforced. Fare regulations will also be introduced to prevent overcharging.

This approval comes as a relief to commuters, offering them an affordable and convenient mode of transport, especially in congested urban areas. It is also expected to create employment opportunities for thousands of riders across Maharashtra.

With this regulatory green light, companies like Rapido, Ola, and Uber are likely to expand their bike taxi services rapidly, enhancing last-mile connectivity and easing urban mobility challenges.
