Taj Mahal "Top Earning" ASI Monument Through Ticket Sales For 5 Consecutive Years (FY20 to FY24): Govt Data
The iconic Taj Mahal has maintained its status as the highest revenue-generating monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for five consecutive financial years — from FY20 to FY24 — according to data released by the central government.
Located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, the 17th-century Mughal-era marvel has consistently drawn millions of visitors each year, both domestic and international. Despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the monument bounced back strongly, topping the ASI’s ticket sales chart annually.
Official figures reveal that the Taj Mahal contributed the lion’s share of ticket revenue among more than 3,600 ASI-protected sites. Analysts attribute this to the monument's global appeal, ease of access, and strong infrastructure around the site.
The continued dominance of the Taj Mahal in ASI revenue rankings underscores its enduring cultural and economic value, as well as its importance to India's tourism sector.
