Tamil Nadu Bans Raw Egg Mayonnaise for One Year

Tamil Nadu has officially banned the manufacture, storage, and sale of mayonnaise made from raw eggs for one year, starting April 8. The decision, announced by the state’s food safety department, aims to prevent potential health risks associated with raw egg consumption, particularly salmonella infections.

The ban follows routine inspections that found unsafe handling practices in some eateries and food manufacturing units. Authorities have urged food businesses to shift to safer alternatives, such as eggless or pasteurized egg-based mayonnaise.

Strict enforcement and penalties are expected for violators during the ban period.
