India’s First Bullet Train Prototype Production Likely by September 2025

India is set to take a major leap in high-speed rail technology as production of its first bullet train prototype is expected to begin by September 2025. The 280 kmph trainset will be indigenously manufactured by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), marking a significant milestone in the Make in India initiative.

This advanced trainset will undergo testing on the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, India’s flagship bullet train project. Once operational, the corridor will significantly cut travel time and boost connectivity between the two major cities.

The development reinforces India’s ambition to join the ranks of nations with a robust high-speed rail network, with indigenous capability playing a pivotal role in future expansions.
