UPI Transactions Rise 4.4% in May to 18.68 Billion

Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions in India continued their upward trend in May 2025, registering a 4.4% increase compared to April. According to data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), a total of 18.68 billion transactions were recorded, up from 17.89 billion the previous month.

In terms of value, UPI transactions in May reached ₹28.4 lakh crore, reflecting growing consumer reliance on digital payments for daily purchases, bill payments, and peer-to-peer transfers.

The consistent growth underscores the increasing adoption of UPI across urban and rural regions, boosted by QR code penetration, merchant acceptance, and government initiatives supporting a cashless economy.
