India Becomes 5th Largest Aviation Market in 2024
India has emerged as the world's fifth-largest aviation market, handling an impressive 241 million air passengers in 2024. This milestone reflects the country’s rapid growth in both domestic and international air travel, driven by rising middle-class incomes, expanding airline networks, and improved airport infrastructure.
According to civil aviation data, the surge in passenger traffic has been supported by new regional routes, low-cost carriers, and a post-pandemic travel rebound. India now trails only the United States, China, the United Kingdom, and the United Arab Emirates in aviation volume.
Experts see this as a sign of India’s growing economic momentum and increasing global connectivity. The government aims to further boost the sector by modernizing airports and promoting regional connectivity under the UDAN scheme.
