India & Asian Development Bank sign $126 mn deal to boost tourism in Uttarakhand

India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a $126 million loan agreement aimed at enhancing tourism infrastructure in Uttarakhand. The project seeks to improve connectivity, promote eco-friendly tourism, and develop key pilgrimage and nature-based destinations in the state.

The funding will be used to upgrade roads, strengthen facilities at tourist spots, and create opportunities for local communities through skill development and small business support. Authorities believe the initiative will not only boost the state’s tourism potential but also generate employment and sustainable economic growth.

With Uttarakhand being a hub for spiritual and adventure tourism, the deal marks a major step toward modernizing its infrastructure while preserving the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
