Namo Bharat becomes India’s Fastest Train, achieves 160 Kmph on Delhi–Meerut Route

India’s regional rapid transit system, Namo Bharat, has set a new benchmark by becoming the country’s fastest train, achieving a top speed of 160 kmph on the Delhi–Meerut corridor. The semi-high-speed service, designed for speed, safety, and passenger comfort, aims to significantly cut travel time between the two cities.

The achievement places Namo Bharat ahead of other operational trains in India, including Vande Bharat Express, making it the first rapid rail to consistently operate at such speeds. Officials highlighted that the success of the project reflects India’s growing capabilities in advanced rail technology and modern urban mobility solutions.

Once fully operational, the Delhi–Meerut line is expected to reduce the travel time of nearly 82 km to under an hour, transforming daily commutes and boosting connectivity across the National Capital Region.
