India On Track To Become World’s Second-Largest Refining Power By 2035: Petroleum Minister

India is poised to become the world’s second-largest oil refining hub by 2035, according to Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. With major capacity expansions underway and continued investments in downstream infrastructure, India aims to strengthen its energy security and meet rising domestic demand.

Puri highlighted that the country’s refining capacity is projected to increase from the current 256 million tonnes per annum to over 450 million tonnes, positioning India just behind the United States. The minister emphasized that India’s energy transition strategy focuses on a balanced mix of traditional fuels and clean energy to support sustainable growth and global supply stability.
