India to Launch Official Caller ID System CNAP for Verified Call Display

India is set to introduce an official Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) system that will display verified caller names during phone calls—without requiring internet access. The initiative, led by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), aims to enhance transparency and curb spam and fraud calls across networks.

Unlike third-party apps, CNAP will be integrated directly into telecom infrastructure, showing the caller’s registered name as per KYC records. This move marks a major step toward improving call authenticity and user safety in India’s growing mobile ecosystem.
