India Introduces Offline UPI Service via 99#

 


India has launched a new offline UPI service that allows users to send money, check account balances, and access essential banking functions without an internet connection. This service works through the USSD code *99#, making digital payments more accessible, especially in low-network or rural areas.

Under the new system, users can perform UPI transactions up to a limit of ₹5,000 per operation. To maintain the service, a nominal charge of ₹0.50 per transaction applies.

With this rollout, India aims to further strengthen its digital payment ecosystem by ensuring that even users without smartphones or stable data connectivity can seamlessly use UPI services.
