India & New Zealand inch closer to Free Trade Agreement after 10-year hiatus

After a decade-long pause, India and New Zealand have revived talks on a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA), signaling renewed interest in deepening economic ties. The discussions aim to enhance trade in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education, and renewable energy.

Both nations are exploring a balanced framework that addresses New Zealand’s export interests in dairy and India’s focus on services, IT, and skilled workforce mobility. The move reflects a broader effort by India to diversify its trade partnerships and by New Zealand to strengthen ties with major Asian economies. If finalized, the FTA could mark a significant step toward boosting bilateral trade and strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
