India–Japan Partnership to Develop Smart Islands

India and Japan have joined hands to transform the Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands into “smart islands,” focusing on sustainable development, advanced infrastructure, and digital connectivity. The collaboration aims to enhance renewable energy use, smart mobility, disaster-resilient infrastructure, and eco-friendly tourism while preserving the islands’ fragile ecosystems.

By combining Japan’s technological expertise with India’s strategic vision, the initiative is expected to improve the quality of life for local communities, boost economic opportunities, and strengthen maritime cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
