Andhra Pradesh to Launch India’s First AI University in Amaravati with NVIDIA Partnership

Andhra Pradesh announces India’s first AI University in Amaravati in partnership with NVIDIA

In a major step toward positioning itself as a national leader in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, the Andhra Pradesh State government has announced plans to establish India’s first dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) University in Amaravati. The ambitious project will be developed in partnership with global technology leader NVIDIA and is set to commence operations on February 19, 2026.

The announcement was made by Katamaneni Bhaskhar, Secretary of the Andhra Pradesh Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) Department, during the TechBharat AI for Public Good Summit held at GITAM Deemed-to-be University. The initiative reflects the State’s growing focus on AI-led education, innovation, and governance reform.

Strategic Partnership with NVIDIA

Andhra Pradesh will launch India’s first dedicated AI University in Amaravati on February 19, 2026, in partnership with NVIDIA, alongside AI-driven governance initiatives.

The collaboration with NVIDIA, a global pioneer in AI computing and accelerated technologies, is expected to bring cutting-edge expertise, industry-aligned curriculum, and advanced research capabilities to the proposed AI University. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world AI applications, ensuring students are trained in areas aligned with global industry demands.

The AI University will focus on developing high-end skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and related technologies, preparing students for careers in both the public and private sectors. It is also expected to act as a hub for innovation, research, and AI-driven startups.

Launch Timeline and Academic Vision

According to officials, the AI University will officially begin operations on February 19, 2026, marking a significant milestone in India’s higher education landscape. Unlike conventional universities with AI as one of many disciplines, this institution will be fully dedicated to artificial intelligence, making it the first of its kind in the country.

The university is expected to offer specialized programs, fellowships, and research opportunities aimed at solving real-world problems using AI, particularly in governance, public services, healthcare, agriculture, and urban planning.

AI for Public Good: Fellowship Distribution at TechBharat Summit

While attending the TechBharat AI for Public Good summit as the chief guest, Mr. Bhaskhar also distributed fellowships to students, underlining the government’s commitment to nurturing AI talent at the grassroots level. The summit focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to address societal and governance challenges, aligning closely with the vision behind the AI University.

The fellowship distribution highlighted the State’s emphasis on encouraging young innovators and researchers to contribute to AI solutions that deliver tangible public benefits.

‘Agent Space’: AI Agent for Every Public Servant

Beyond education, Andhra Pradesh is also pioneering AI-driven governance reforms. Mr. Bhaskhar revealed that the State is implementing a first-of-its-kind initiative to provide an AI agent for every public servant.

This AI-powered digital workspace, named ‘Agent Space’, is being rolled out through the Real Time Governance Society (RTGS). The platform is designed to enhance governance efficiency, improve productivity, and streamline service delivery across all State departments.

By integrating AI tools into daily administrative workflows, the government aims to reduce delays, improve decision-making, and offer faster, more transparent services to citizens.

Transforming Governance and Digital Infrastructure

The introduction of ‘Agent Space’ marks a significant shift toward AI-assisted administration. With AI agents supporting officials in data analysis, task management, and citizen engagement, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a frontrunner in digital governance innovation in India.

This initiative complements the AI University’s broader objective of creating a robust ecosystem where education, research, and governance reinforce each other.

A Step Toward India’s AI-Driven Future

The launch of India’s first AI University, combined with AI-powered governance tools, signals Andhra Pradesh’s long-term vision to become a national and global hub for artificial intelligence. By investing in talent development, institutional capacity, and digital infrastructure, the State is laying the groundwork for sustainable, technology-driven growth.

As the February 2026 launch approaches, the AI University in Amaravati is expected to play a transformative role in shaping India’s AI workforce and advancing the use of artificial intelligence for public good.
