IPL Signs ₹270 Crore Google Gemini Deal, Marking a New Era of AI-Driven Cricket Sponsorship

IPL and Google Gemini partnership announcement highlighting the growing role of AI in Indian cricket sponsorships

The Indian Premier League (IPL), already the most valuable cricket league in the world, has taken another significant leap in its commercial journey. The tournament has reportedly signed a three-year partnership deal with Google Gemini, valued at ₹270 crore, further strengthening IPL’s global appeal and brand dominance.

The partnership will come into effect from IPL 2026 and run through the 2028 season, positioning one of the world’s most advanced AI platforms at the center of cricket’s biggest annual spectacle.

A Landmark Entry of AI into Indian Cricket

IPL Partners with Google Gemini in ₹270 Crore Deal | AI Enters Indian Cricket

The association between IPL and Google Gemini marks a defining moment in Indian cricket marketing. While technology brands have long been involved in sports sponsorships, this deal highlights the growing influence of artificial intelligence-led platforms in mainstream sports advertising.

Gemini’s entry follows a similar move by ChatGPT, which earlier signed a two-year deal with the Women’s Premier League (WPL) worth ₹16 crore, valid until the end of the 2027 season. Together, these partnerships signal a broader transformation in how cricket is being marketed and monetised.

BCCI’s Strategic Shift After Gaming Ban

The Indian Premier League has signed a ₹270 crore, three-year partnership with Google Gemini from 2026–2028, signaling a major shift toward AI-led sponsorships in Indian cricket.

Sources indicate that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has actively pivoted toward AI brands following the ban on Real Money Gaming (RMG) in August 2025. The ban reportedly triggered an immediate market contraction of nearly ₹7,000 crore, severely impacting sponsorship pipelines.

Fantasy gaming platforms, which had once dominated cricket advertising, were forced out of the ecosystem. This shift directly affected BCCI, as Dream11, a leading fantasy gaming company, had been the principal sponsor during previous seasons.

The loss compelled cricket administrators to identify alternative high-value sponsors capable of matching the financial muscle once offered by gaming firms.

Why AI Brands Are the Perfect Fit

AI-driven companies like Google Gemini are emerging as ideal replacements for fantasy gaming sponsors. With rapid advancements in generative AI, machine learning, and consumer-facing applications, these brands are aggressively seeking visibility among India’s massive digital-first audience.

Cricket, especially the IPL, offers unparalleled reach, making it an ideal platform for AI brands to establish trust, familiarity, and mass adoption. Industry estimates suggest that ₹300–400 crore could be spent by AI companies on cricket advertising alone in the coming years.

IPL and WPL Deals Seen as Industry Game-Changers

The Google Gemini–IPL partnership, along with ChatGPT’s WPL deal, is being viewed as a watershed moment for sports marketing in India. These agreements are not just high-value sponsorships but also represent a shift in narrative—from gaming-led promotions to technology and innovation-driven branding.

Experts believe these collaborations could redefine fan engagement, with AI-powered experiences, enhanced analytics, and smarter digital interactions becoming part of the cricket-watching ecosystem in the near future.
