India’s Firm Rebuttal to China–Pakistan Statement Reinforces Its Sovereignty Over Jammu & Kashmir

India has issued a decisive and unequivocal response to the recent China–Pakistan joint statement, strongly rejecting any reference to Jammu & Kashmir and reiterating that the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are integral and inalienable parts of India. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized that no external party has the authority or locus standi to comment on India’s internal matters.

India Reasserts Sovereignty Amid Renewed CPEC References

The sharp diplomatic rebuttal comes at a time when Beijing and Islamabad once again attempted to bring up the Kashmir issue and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in bilateral discussions during Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent Beijing visit. India’s stand remains unwavering: CPEC projects that pass through Pakistan-occupied territories violate India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. As Jaiswal highlighted, India has repeatedly conveyed these concerns to both nations.

Delhi Rejects “Trans-Boundary Water Cooperation” Claims

India also dismissed references to supposed China–Pakistan “trans-boundary water resources cooperation,” pointing out the basic geopolitical fact that the two countries share no common boundary. New Delhi further reiterated its longstanding non-recognition of the 1963 China–Pakistan boundary agreement, under which Pakistan illegally ceded over 5,000 sq km of the Shaksgam Valley to China.

Beijing–Islamabad Push for Expanded CPEC Raises Strategic Concerns

Meanwhile, China and Pakistan claimed to have reached a “new broad consensus” to deepen CPEC cooperation, upgrade infrastructure, and position Gwadar as a connectivity hub. However, India views such moves—especially those involving Pakistan-occupied Kashmir—as attempts to legitimize illegal occupation. Enhanced security promises for Chinese personnel also underscore the persistent instability surrounding CPEC.
